Finding, declaring, or changing your major
You can check whether or not you have a declared major and minor by looking at your Degree Progress Report (DPR) on the Student Hub.
If you want to earn a degree, you must declare a major. You can take a few courses to broaden your education without declaring a major. But, to graduate, you must declare a major. It is advantageous for you to declare a major as soon as possible. Then you will receive advising specific to your needs and will be less likely to take unnecessary courses. This is a two-step process. First, set up an advising session with us. Before you meet with your advisor, fill out the Declaration/Change of Majors and Minors form. Send the completed form to your advisor for signature.

Review the Undergraduate Petition for Overload Exception to see if you are eligible. If you are, please submit the completed form to [email protected].
Yes, there are required prerequisites to many of the HEP courses. You can find the prerequisites by going to the Course Descriptions section of the Academic Catalog. Enter the course that you wish to examine in the search bar (e.g. HCM 3150), then hit ‘Filter’. Click on the course from the search results and you can read the prerequisites. Also, you can click on any course that you still need from your Degree Progress Report and a description and prerequisites will show up.

Errors when registering
There are a variety of reasons that may cause an error/hold when you register for a course. First, note what type of error/hold it is. Take a screenshot that you may reference as you reach out to resolve. Then visit the registrar to see who to contact for resolution.
Email the department. Please include the class you are trying to get into, as well as your 900#. If possible, attach a screenshot and attach to your email.
First, go to your Student Hub and check out “Course Info”.
- Review the course(s) you are trying to register for. If you have not met the prerequisites, you will need to take those courses first. In some situations, the instructor may grant permission to get into the class. If you have the Professors permission, please forward that email from the Professor, along with your information (full name, 900#, and the course information) to [email protected]
- If you DO meet the prerequisites and you are still receiving this error, please email [email protected] and let us know that you checked the catalog and there is a technical error. Please also include your name, 900#, and the class you are trying to get into.
This error means that the class you are trying to register for requires you to have a class standing (example: be a junior in college or higher or be a Senior in college or higher). If you believe this is an error (transfer credits have not been evaluated yet), or are close to this status, we recommend setting up advising to review your degree progress report.
Tracking your progress, advising, and graduation!
The fastest way is to go to your Student Hub. Then go to “Degree Progress Report”. This is a great tool that will help you keep track of your degree progression. In addition, we strongly encourage frequent advising with your Faculty and Staff.

Briefly, you must complete:
- 120 semester hours with a cumulative GPA of 2.0
- At least 40 credit hours of upper division (3000-4000) courses
- Complete the General Studies Program
- Complete the Multicultural requirement (at least 3 credits)
- Complete the Senior Experience course (at least 3 credits)
- Fulfill the Major requirements and possibly minor requirements. See your specific degree requirements
- File an Application for Graduation with the Office of the Registrar according to published dates in the Academic Calendar
- Satisfy academic residency requirements, which are classes taken at MSU Denver.
- Listed under “Academic Residency Requirements” under the Requirements for All Bachelors Degreessection in the Academic Catalog.
Most majors require a minor of at least 18 semester hours. See if your specific major requires a minor. Students, with the help of their advisors, may choose their minor. Use the Declaration/Change of Majors and Minors form to declare your minor.
